Biogems is a game that combines the gameplay of a match-3 game with that of a fast paced action fighter. In Biogems, you help a cute species of Extra terrestrials save their planet from invaders by playing a sequence of match-3 puzzles, and defeating the enemies one by one.
You start the game by choosing one of three characters to play as. After that you are presented with the arena itself, which consists of a square field of gems laid on the board. Your character will be on the left of the board, and the evil invader on the right. The gems on the board are multicolored, and of different shapes. Like in other match-3 games, the goal here is to exchange gems, or otherwise move them to align the same types of gems in a single line or in other shapes. Apart from a line, you can also align the gems in the shape of a T or an L.
However, this is not the whole story. The real action of the game happens with the different types of gems, and their role in the combat that you have to do with the invaders. There are eight different types of gems; each colored and shaped differently. The gray gems allow you to attack the opponent, so if you can align three or more grey gems in a row, T or L shapes, you are able to attack the enemy. Attacking the enemy by aligning gray gems will drain a bit of your energy, which you can restore using the yellow gems. Similarly, there are green gems to restore life, blue gems add to your defense when you are attacked by the enemy, pink counterattacks, red adds to your rage, and a rainbow is formed when you match five or more of any kind.
If you match four or five gems at the same time, you get a free turn. The game is very interesting, and keeps your attention on the different types of things going on with energy, defense and counterattacking. The music is entertaining too, and adds to the tempo of the game.
If you log in using your Mochi online account, you can save games for later. However, if you do not have a Mochi account, you can still play the game, and even have saves across the same session of a browser.
